The ACP is pleased to offer a new set of prizes for 2013 to both medical students and Postgraduate trainees at FY/CMT level, to try and stimulate an interest in oncology and recognise excellence in cancer research.

Applicants are invited to submit an essay on a topic of their choice based around one of the following themes:

  • Cancer Prevention
  • Cancer Detection

The essay should focus on an area of cancer medicine that the candidate is particularly interested in within one of the themes. The essay should be no longer than 1,500 words (excluding references). Alternatively a report on a laboratory or clinical research project on cancer, performed by the applicant may be submitted (1500 words) in lieu of the essay.

Two medical student applications per medical school will be accepted for review following review by the medical school. Postgraduate applications should be accompanied by a reference from the trainee’s educational supervisor. Papers will be judged by a panel of ACP assessors. Their decision is final. The winners of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate prizes win £200 and free attendance on the Imperial College London “Practical Introduction to Oncology Course”.
