| Prizes These annual awards were
established by the friends and colleagues of Professor
Tim McElwain, to commemorate his extraordinary
contributions to the development of Medical Oncology in
the UK. They are open to trainees in Medical Oncology who are members of
the Association of Cancer Physicians.
Applications are invited
for the McElwain Scholarship (up to £3000) and Prize
(£1000).
McElwain
ScholarshipThe purpose of this
Scholarship is to allow a UK trainee in Medical Oncology
the opportunity to visit a centre of excellence to learn
a novel clinical or laboratory method which will
contribute to the individual's education and training.
Applications should
consist of:
- A brief summary of
the proposed study period, particularly outlining
the relevance of the Scholarship to training in
the context of future career options
- A letter of
acceptance from the Head of Department which the
trainee plans to visit
- A reference from
the trainee's Head of Department
- Details of the
anticipated costs
McElwain
PrizeThe prize will be
awarded annually to a UK trainee in Medical Oncology who
as performed high quality research on some aspect of
clinical or basic research related to cancer.
Applications should
consist of:
- A summary of the
research project (max 2000 words including
references)
- An abstract (up to 200 words)
- Reprints of
relevant published material if available
- A reference from
the trainee's Head of Department or research
Supervisor
The McElwain Prize
winner will be invited to give a presentation at the
NCRI Cancer Conference.

The date of the next application
deadline for both awards is 16th March 2007. The second McElwain
scholarship of the year will be open for applications in August, with
closing date September 2007.
